Canal Holiday Routes
There are a number of different routes you can take from our canal holiday base at Preston Brook in Cheshire. From open countryside and cosy pubs to large or historic cities we are sure you'll find something of interest. Our base is perfectly suited for trips around the Cheshire Ring and Four Counties Ring. Or visit the historic city of Chester, the heart of Manchester or the famous Llangollen Canal.
On the following pages we've described some of the varied routes you can enjoy when on a canal holiday with us.
Planning your cruise
How far can you go? - How long does it take?
Chester & Return
An easy relaxing cruise to an Historic City with plenty to see when you are there and numerous places to stop enroute.
Llangollen & Return
Cross the magnificent Pontycysylte and Chirk aqueducts. Numerous towns, villages, pubs and eating places on the way.
The Cheshire Ring Experience
Up through the heart of Manchester to Marple and along the edge of the Peak district with wonderful views across the Cheshire Plain. Back down the hill to the old Roman town of Middlewich.
The Four Counties Ring
Four major canals - Bridgewater, Trent & Mersey, Staffs & Worcester and Shropshire Union. Climb the hills to Stoke-on-Trent and go through the Harecastle Tunnel. Down the other side, through the Trent valley. Cross over to near Wolverhampton and back through the deepest cuttings and longest embankments on the "Shroppie"
Barbridge & Return (Short Break)
Fine views from the hillside of the weaver valley nice places to stop by pubs or deep in the countryside.
To the Heart of Manchester (Short Break)
Across the Cheshire plain passing through delightful countryside and villages enroute and to the Centre of Manchester
The Cheshire Locks
A strenuous route up "Heartbreak Hill" with magnificent views of the hills near Stoke-on-Trent and down into the Cheshire plain.
Anderton Lift and the River Weaver
Travel down the lift in your holiday boat. Cruise up to Northwich & moor within a stones throw of the town centre.
North and South (Short Break)
An easy route south to Anderton and the Lift; return northwards through countryside to the charming village of Lymm
