At Claymoore we are offering you the chance to experience a canal boat before deciding to hire. Our training course is designed to boost your confidence in the safe operation of your holiday narrowboat.

Our training courses are run for either a morning or afternoon and last between 2-3 hours. The course offers you individual tuition with one of our experienced instructors and we limit participants to a maximum of two people.

Our canal boat training course covers the following:

- Engine checks and the weed hatch.
- Rules of the road.
- Casting off and mooring up.
- Use of ropes, poles and hooks.
- Steering and manoeuvring.
- Going ahead and reversing.
- Navigating through tunnels.
- Turning round.
- Approaching junctions and sharp turns.
- Controlling the boat in a lock.
- Safe lock operation going up and down.
- Dropping off and picking up crew.
- Going aground.
- Man overboard.

The course costs £50 and this fee is deducted from your hire cost if you decide to book a holiday with us for one week or more.
