Day Boat Hire on the Bridgewater or Trent & Mersey Canals

Enjoy a day out along the Bridgewater or Trent & Mersey Canals in our purpose built day boat. Designed for all weathers, the Mock Turtle accommodates up to twelve people, allowing them to enjoy a fabulous day out in the English countryside.

Our day boat provides comfortable enclosed seating in the main and outer saloons. The outer saloon has removable side windows to allow the sun in during good weather and provides protection for rainy days.

From as little as £9.16 per person when booked by a party of twelve there are few other days out in Britain that offer you such value for money.

When you arrive at our base, full instruction in the handling and features of your boat will be given.

Your boat will be ready for you at 9:30 am and should be returned by 5:00 pm or sunset (whichever is earliest).

Your time allows you a full day to explore the surrounding canals, stopping for a bite to eat or perhaps a pub lunch.

From our base at Preston Brook you can travel along the lock-free Bridgewater Canal with wide views over the Mersey Valley. Your trip takes you through the beautiful wooded cutting at Walton, with the possibility of visiting Walton Hall and gardens, complete with a children's playground and animal corner. Then pass slowly through London Bridge at Stockton Heath to the village of Grappenhall with its cobbled streets and cosy pubs.

An alternative route on the Trent & Mersey Canal is possible for experienced boaters (British Waterways require a licence fee of £5 for this route, payable through us). After passing through the 1239 yd long Preston Brook Tunnel, the canal runs along a beautiful hillside overlooking the River Weaver valley. At Acton Bridge there are two pubs offering meals. Further along, two shorter tunnels take us to Anderton where the famous boat lift, with its visitor centre, is located.

We offer a discount of £10 per day during the period 1st November to 31st March (except Easter weekend).

Day Boat hire is available from 9:30 am until 5:00 pm or sunset (whichever is earlier). All prices are inclusive of fuel and VAT. A security/damage deposit of £50 (in cash) will be required on the day in addition to the hire charge. The deposit will be returned at the end of the hire period subject to clause 6 of 'The Conditions of Hire'.

How to Book Our Day Boat

If you wish to book our day boat you can email, telephone or visit us to check availability. Simply send us your booking form and 25% deposit. We will hold your reservation for 3 days pending receipt of a booking form and the deposit. The balance is to be paid one month before the date of hire.

Conditions of Hire

1. Failure to take the boat will result in the forfeit of your payment.
2. The day boat will be available for you to embark from 9:30. The boat must be returned to our base by 5:00 pm or sunset, whichever is earlier. We reserve the right to deduct £25 from your security deposit for every half hour or part of half hour you are late.
3. The day boat may only be cruised North from Preston Brook unless permission has been given to experienced boaters.
4. Portable gas appliances are NOT allowed under any circumstances. Charcoal barbecues must only be used off the boat. They must be thoroughly emptied and cooled before re-embarkation.
5. No live bait or maggots are allowed on board.
6. Your security and damage deposit will be returned to you at the end of your hire period providing you return on time, there is no damage to the boat, no losses or breakages of the boat's equipment and the boat is returned in a clean and tidy condition.
